iPhone? I wouldn't go as far as to say retarded. The GUI sure is sweet. But as far as functionality is concerned it's lagging some five years behind current high end phones. And it's even intentionally locked down when it comes to adding software to make up for some of what it lacks (I know you can circumvent it, but that's besides the point).
You won't find me in line, that's for sure.
I'm already planning on getting in line tomorrow morning. As far as being locked down when it comes to adding software... The new App Store was just released today with over 500 applications to download. I've already downloaded nearly 30 that I'm testing out on my current iPhone before I pick the new one up. So Rob, if you think you're retarded for standing in line, I guess I am too!
Call be picky. I just don't like a "mini computer" type phone that requires applications to be screened and approved by the manufacturer.
500 is a drop in the ocean compared to what you can get for a Windows Mobile phone, for example. Though WM is far from perfect, it is virtually an open platform comparatively speaking.
As a utility I think the iPhone is pretty broken. As jewellery it's freakin amazing. So it all depends on what you want to spend money on.
A review I read recently listed the iPhone as "7/10 compared to the market in general, 5/10 compared to what Apple claims it is". Just know what you're buying.
