Sorry about the updates kids, just past my two year anniversary with my macbook pro and last Friday after I turned it on it greeted me with... nothing. So I dropped it off at ye ole Apple store and when they called back, they wanted $1400 to fix it.... Dear Steve, I love your shit and all, but you're out of you're fucking mind with those prices.There will be no more Mac laptops in my future after that.. So I'm sitting around waiting for a Toshiba notebook to arrive until we do another buy at "work" and I can pick up a decent Dell. Anyway sorry about the venting... just really annoys me cuz that thing cost a fortune and honestly I think the failure was because of the excessive heat the thing kicked out... grrrrrr

It's when I read stories like that I can't help but feel lucky I live in a country with decent consumer protection laws.
The minimum amount of time any item can last under normal use is 2 years. If it's intended to last significantly longer than 2 years, that extends to 5 years. In other words, Apple wouldn't have a choice but repair it free of cost here. Unless, of course, they could make a reasonable claim it was not due to their workmanship.
I wish that was the case here... would save me a ton of headaches....
